Who am I?
I am Shruti Joshi from Nainital, and I work with a non-profit organization called Better Plus Education, where we help children in schools develop an entrepreneurial mindset from a young age. I have started a campaign to raise funds for Better Plus Education to help them conduct their programs for this year and be able to give this entrepreneurial experience to government school children.
Why am I raising funds?
Are you aware of the 21st century education crisis? With the world’s most pressing problems like climate change, poverty, water shortage, etc. increasing, the world needs more and more problem-solvers than ever before. The only sustainable solution for this to happen is if we can make the children of today sensitized to these problems from a young age so that they become life-long problem-solvers. However, the current schooling system focuses only on memorising facts such as historical dates, scientific definitions & mathematics formulas. Consequently, young people leave schools with marks and certificates but lack in becoming empathetic, conscious citizens of the world.
Better Plus Education, through trained volunteers, runs programs in schools where children from the 6th-12th grade students are mentored to start their own social initiatives to solve a real-world problem, so that they develop a mindset of creating change from a young age. For ex., one group of 12-yr-old students started an initiative to save water and have saved more than 81,000 litres of water monthly in their community; another started an initiative to tackle bullying in school; another recycled 570+Kg of electronic waste in their colonies, and so on. Through this experience of creating change at a young age, children develop an attitude of change-making. See the collage below for some examples of initiatives students start. I personally believe in the vision of this organization and am raising funds to support them.
Where will the funds be used?
We are in urgent need of funds to conduct our programs for this year. It costs us around Rs. 21,000/year/govt. school (approximately 100 govt. school students) and I have committed to raise funds for at least 5 govt. schools to deliver our programs, so I’m hoping you can help, even if it is a part of it. If you’re interested, the ideal case is making a monthly donation. The amount can be anything like Rs. 500/month, Rs. 1,000/per month, Rs. 2,000/month or any other amount that you’re comfortable with. I will be more than happy to give you any other information about the organization and the use of funds. You can reach out to me by emailing to [email protected] or calling at +91 96437 11652.
