Team Air Purification, Social Impact Award Winner

Meghna, Shaatvika, Tanisha, Varuni, 14-year old students, learnt that indoor pollution is as dangerous as outdoor pollution. On further research, they found out that the indoor air pollution can result in harmful heath effects and can cause several respiratory diseases.

Technology and industrial revolution has brought about valuable changes in our life, but we have overused these advancements and have now destroyed our nature to a stage that we can’t even breath clean air.

Idea

After researching about different methods to reduce air pollution, they found these special plants called ‘Snake Plants’ that help purify the air and even give out oxygen at night. They decided to sell these plants in their neighbourhood to help people improve the air quality at their homes.

Solution Implemented

They decided to first buy the plants themselves and then sell it to their neighbours. They found a nursery where they could find the plants for cheapest and bought 15 plants initially in order to test their solution. They documented all the benefits of using Snake Plants. They also used a “Air Quality Monitor Device” to monitor the air quality before and after keeping the snake plants. The recordings from the device showed that the CO2 levels in their air decreased by 40% after keeping Snake Plants. They used all these collaterals to help their neighbours understand the importance of keeping Snake Plants at their homes and began going door-to-door in their apartments to sell the plants.

Impact Created

They have, till now, sold 120+ Snake Plants and helped people in improving the air quality at their homes. They now plan to expand their initiative and make more people aware about the problem and sell more plants across their city.
