Kartik, Anish, Harsh and Tanvi, 15-year old students, learnt that cyber crimes, mostly cyber theft and cyber bullying are one of the greatest problems being faced by the modern world. There is an increasing rate of cyber theft and cyber bullying which can result in monetary loss, identity theft, etc.

Through our initiative, we want to reach as many people as we can and educate them about our motto - "safe steps on the net".

Idea

After proper research on cyber crimes and how to prevent it, they learnt that one of the best ways to fight cyber crimes is by creating awareness regarding all the aspects of cyber crimes and teaching people about safe browsing methods on the internet. To get a better understanding of the current knowledge of their target audience, they conducted a survey and launched their initiative “Web Warriors”.

Solution Implemented

They key idea was to spread awareness amongst people and they chose different methods to do that. They started with conducting workshops on topics such as Safe Browsing and Cautions while using Social Media, in schools as children consisted of a large proportion of smartphones and social media users. Then to spread awareness about To spread the common rules of safe ATM and Online transactions, they printed over 1,500 pamphlets and distributed them with the help of a local newspaper, in local markets and by going door-to-door. Further, to spread awareness on a large scale, they created a free online course, designed an e-book and started a blog covering various topics.

We share some basic ways to stay safe on the internet with our audience. It's important that people browse with caution and a good conscience, because curiosity is not a sin, but one must exercise caution.

Impact Created

In a period of 4 months, they have conducted workshops in 5+ schools and impacted 500+ students. Through their online course and e-book, they have impacted 5000+ people.
